Back in 1998, Double R and the Legend had an extra pair of tickets to
the Virginia – Virginia Tech game, and came up with this silly little
idea of having listeners change the lyrics to popular songs and then
sing them on the air. The concept was simple. Whoever had the best song
parody . . . pertaining to the UVA –Tech game and rivalry would win
tickets to the game. Who would have ever guessed that it would turn
into the biggest event of the year on The Sportsline.

For the second consecutive year, The Sportsline has ventured out of the comforts of the studio to broadcast one show live from Blacksburg . . . sitting on the sidelines as the Virginia Tech Hokies practiced and prepared for the upcoming season. Once again Rich and Larry got a chance to see up close and personal how Frank Beamer and his staff prepare the Hokies for another big season, and got the chance to talk with some of the key figures for Virginia Tech this season. In addition to speaking with head coach Frank Beamer, Double R and the Legend caught up with star LB Vince Hall, RB Brandon Ore (Larry's sleeper pick for Player of the Year in the ACC), the man with the lunch pail S Aaron Rouse, big DL Barry Booker . . . and the radio voice of the Hokies, Bill Roth.
Future Road Trips could include a live broadcast for the Thursday night game in Charlottesville between UVA and UNC, a live broadcast for the Thursday night game in Blacksburg between Tech and Clemson, The 2006 Sportsline Song Parody Contest and live broadcasts from John Paul Jones Arena and Cassell Coliseum.

Each year, in order to keep some form of interest in auto racing, Rich and Larry form a NASCAR Fantasy League along with some listeners. Each year is broken up into two seasons, the second of which ends just prior to the kickoff of Football season . . . which is when NASCAR should end anyway.
To make this Fantasy League as realistic as possible, The Sportsline has included sponsors for each team, which much be shamelessly plugged at every possible opportunity. Schilling for sponsors truly completes the NASCAR fantasy experience.
In addition to subjecting themselves to ridicule and hijinks . . . participants in The Sportsline NASCAR Fantasy League can not only claim bragging rights over Double R and the Legend (like that's anything to write home about) but listeners can also win great prizes including tickets to NEXTEL Cup races in the area.
If you are interested in participating in The Sportsline NASCAR Fantasy League, keep your ears open around early February just prior to Daytona for your chance to qualify. And you can always be thinking about the easiest NASCAR trivia question you can ask Rich and Larry (which there is no way they will answer), as Stump the Sportsline is always a good bet to pop up for qualifying.
