Bill Roth, Ryan Zimmerman, Jerry Ratcliffe & The Debut of "RR's Strip Club Classics"
Tuesday, 17 April 2007

Today on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... 75 days and counting ... and more fallout from the tragedy in Blacksburg, along with how it will affect the VT Athletic schedules from here on out.  Bill Roth, the voice of the Virginia Tech Hokies joined R&R right off the bat with more from the tragic situation in Blacksburg.  Bill talked about the emotion and support displayed during the Covocation on Tuesday afternoon, attended by President Bush along with Gov. Kaine and tons of other politicians and dignitaries.  Roth talked about how everyone on the campus is pulling together and about the brief poem by Nikki Giovanni which made such an impact on everyone.  Finally Bill talked about the cancelling of Spring Football and the spring game, as well as the schedules of other athletic teams at VT.

R&R then played the brief speech/poem given by Nikki Giovanni at the Convocation on Tuesday and talked about the reaction of the folks in attendance.  Rich talked about being somewhat surprised by the sea of orange and maroon ... everyone donning their Tech gear for the service ... and the chant of "Let's Go Hokies" which echoed through Cassell Coliseum.  Larry was not so surprised by all  of the Tech gear on display, but he too was caught by the chant.

The guys moved on from the tragedy in hour 2 ... catching up with Jerry "Hootie" Ratcliffe of The Charlottesville Daily Progress to talk about the spring game and 'Festivus' up in C'ville this past weekend.  Ratcliffed said that there was a pretty good turnout despite the lousy weather ... and said that Groh could be done if the Cavs suffer another sub 500 season.  He was impressed with QB Jameel Sewell last season, saying he showed some good signs despite being thrown into the mix without being totally prepared ... and Ratcliffes said he expects the Cavs to be a bowl team again next season.

Before hooking up with Ryan Zimmerman of the Washington Nationals, Rich read a statement from Michael Vick, aka Ron Mexico, concerning the situation in Blacksburg.  The statement sounded nothing at all like something that would come out of the mouth of Mr. Mexico, although the sentiment was probably genuine.  Why can't they let some of these athletes say things in their own words, rather than writing statements for them?

Ryan Zimmerman dropped by next to touch on his second full season up with the Nats.  Zimmerman hit on a whole host of topics including being part of a young organization, his own personal goals and achievements, playing close to home and the future of the ballclub, this year and down the road.

R&R wrapped up the show welcoming a new sponsor of sorts to the show.  The Comrade is at it again ... this time unveiling the new CD "Rich Roth's Strip Club Classics".  Another great job by the Comrade ... very funny stuff ... made even better by the fact that it once again made the Legend embarrassed to be part of the show.
