Matt Schaub, Ray Ferraro, Jon Hamlett, Curt Smith & The Bloody Sock Controversy
Thursday, 26 April 2007

Today on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... 66 days and counting ... and the show begins today with the debate again on the "Bloody" sock of Curt Schilling back in the 2004 Playoffs.  More evidence has surface that Schilling actually painted the sock to look like blood for some good PR ... but Larry and Bluetooth were in full attack mode on Yankee fans everywhere ... then with the help of listeners the Legend coined the phrase "If its brown, leave it in Cooperstown ... and Make Yankee fans Frown".  Not exactly Shakespeare, but you get the point.  This discussion also led to a new poll question about the sock.  This Day in Sportsline History flashed all the way back to 1999 when R&R continued the tradition of "The King of All Jerks" Contest.

Up next on the show, the new QB of the Houston Texans, Matt Schaub dropped by to talk once again with Rich and Larry.  Matt is really looking forward to getting his shot in the NFL, although he described his time spent in Atlanta as invaluable.  The much maligned Texans OL should be much better now that everyone is healthy ... and he is looking forward to throwing to Andre Johnson often.

Former NHL Star Ray Ferraro dropped by the show to talk about the Hockey Playoffs.  Ferraro is now one of the top NHL analysts for NBC's Hockey coverage and he previewed round 2 of the playoffs, and touched on how special the playoffs are in hockey.

Jon Hamlett ... former Jefferson Forest star who spent his college years playing TE for the Tarheels also checked in, as he gets ready for draft weekend.  Jon said he expects to be a late round pick or free agent ... but is very excited about finding out where his NFL career might begin this weekend.  Jon talked about training for the draft down in New Orleans and said he grew up loving Jeremy Shockey as a TE ... which really made Larry feel old.

Finally today on the show ... Curt Smith, author of The Voice ... The Untold Story of Mel Allen, joined R&R to talk about his book.  The Yankees never made it known why they fired their legendary PBP man back in the day ... and this book digs down to find out the true answers.
