RR live from Wild Dunes, Joe Stevens, Megan West & Huggins Hired at WVU
Thursday, 05 April 2007

Today on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... 87 days and counting but the focus of the show will be on the Masters, as Double R is broadcasting live from the Links Clubhouse at Wild Dunes, Charleston's Island Resort.  2007 Masters Coverage is brought to you by Poplar Grove Golf Club ... and joining Rich live from Charleston is Joe Stevens, head pro at the Links Course at Wild Dunes.

R&R along with Joe Stevens preview the Masters after almost one complete day is in the books, and it looks as though the golf course is going to play much tougher this week and the scores will be much closer to even par than they have been recently.  Stevens touched on the cold, windy conditions at Augusta being a huge factor, drying out the greens and making them extremely fast and difficult to hold.

The leaderboard after day one showed a lot of new names ... lots of young guys trying to establish themselves on the PGA Tour as contenders.  Phil and Tiger and some of the other bigger name guys are off to a slow start, though that doesn't necessarily mean they are out of the mix ... especially Tiger.

In the final segment of hour one ... Stevens talked about the great appeal of Wild Dunes and what makes it such a great vacation destination.  Located just minutes from Charleston and located right on the ocean gives Wild Dunes the best of all worlds.  Miles of ocean front beach, plus two unbelievable golf courses designed by Tom Fazio ... The World Renowned Links course featuring holes 17 and 18 right along the Atlantic Ocean ranked among the top 500 holes in the world ... and the Harbor Course along the Intercoastal Waterway with water or marsh coming into play on 16 of the 18 holes.

Hour two featured a quick call from Darnell checking in ... as well as Megan West of the Golf Channel to talk some Masters with R&R.  Megan pointed out that she felt like FIGJAM was dead as the couple of times he did manage to win a major championship ... he was near the top of the leaderboard all the way through and she said that he is not the type of player that can come from behind.

R&R also got into the poll question featuring FIGJAM and wound up betting lunch on FIGJAM's success this week.  Larry would win the bet if FIGJAM wins another green jacket (yeah right!) and Rich would win if Phil missed the cut.  We shall see but the smart money right now is on this bet being a push with FIGJAM making the cut but not coming even close to winning.

Rich and Larry wrapped up the show talking some college hoops and touching on the big mistake West Virginia is making in hiring Bob Huggins to replace John Belein who bolted Morgantown for the Maize and Blue of Michigan.  Belein finally had that program moving in the right direction and even more importantly he was doing it the right way ... why bring in Huggins and his cheating ways and bring shame to the WVU hoops program.
