Zach Johnson Snags the Green Jacket, Jason Sobel & Hank Gola
Monday, 09 April 2007

Today on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... 83 days and counting ... but the day belongs to Zach Johnson who claimed his first Green Jacket, first Major Championship and only his second PGA Tour win.  Rich doesn't feel as though Zach will be another Ben Curtis, or Rich Beem ... you know a guy who wins a major and then is never heard from again.  Larry didn't care for CBS' coverage on Saturday ... he wanted to see every painful shot from Geoff Ogilvy and CBS cut away.

Rich talked about getting scolded by the DJ at an 'establishment' down in Charleston, as the DJ threatened to turn off the TV with Masters Coverage if RR didn't start paying more attention to the Ladies.  Double R thought that this should earn him some credit ... in his warped way of thinking ...

ESPN.com golf editor Jason Sobel dropped by the show to recap the Masters and talked about how o a number of different occasions you had the feeling that Tiger was on track and ready to take the Green Jacket ... but it never quite worked out that way.  Sobel said that many of the changes to Augusta National that were made several years ago to 'Tiger Proof' the course finally came into play this week as a result of the weather.  Jason also does not feel that Zach Johnson will be a 'one and done' kinda guy ... compares him favorably with David Toms.  After Sobel, R&R talk a little more Masters and look to future bets for FIGJAM.

Up next R&R dive into the Imus controversy.  Rich shared the story of how Imus reamed him out while RR was working for WFAN up in New York one summer ... just for watching TV during the overnight shift.  R&R then played the audio that got the I-Man in trouble ... you know the 'nappy headed ho's' thing ... and Rich criticized him for his joke not being funny.  It's one thing to get busted if the joke is good ... but a bad joke makes your judgement that much worse.  RR also wondered why Imus thinks the Tennessee team is attractive ... although Bluetooth, the resident expert on Women's Hoops, defended the Lady Vols as "hot".  After checking out some pics of the Lady Vols, Bluetooth felt vindicated ... although Rich and Larry were not all that impressed.

Hank Gola of the NY Daily News checked in from Kiawah on his way back from the Masters.  He talked about Tiger not having his A game and being in a dogfight much of the day.  Other than the eagle Tiger made on 13, he never really made the charge that we were all expecting him to make.  Gola said that the US Open and PGA venues do not really suit FIGJAM and the British Open never does, so it could be a bit of a dry spell for Phil this year.

Brandon won The Sportsline's Online Masters Pool and talked about how vegasinsider.com helped him make his winning picks, including Zach Johnson as an at-large selection.  Brandon picked himself up 4 greens fee passes to Poplar Grove for a prize.
