Thursday on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... the guys run down the leaderboard for day 1 of the PGA Championship and Double R also previews the rest of the show along with an event which lead him to have a very bad day. Chip Sullivan, the head pro at Ashley Plantation in Roanoke joined R&R on the show again today after his first round at the PGA. Chip talked about the heat and how it was affecting the players and the golf course, and talked about his warm up routine and how it was changed by the extreme heat. Sullivan also said that its important for the PGA Professionals to play well at this event, to justify the spots that they receive each year. More golf ... this time from the women's side as one of the rising young stars on the LPGA Tour dropped by the show once again, as R&R talked with Natalie Gulbis. Natalie was just returning to the U.S. after winning her first LPGA tour event in Paris, The Evian Masters ... and followed that up with a good showing at the Women's British Open at St. Andrews. Like Natalie told Double R and the Legend ... It doesn't suck being her! Prior to the 7pm news break, Double R got into the story about how he ran out of gas earlier today. He was trying to push the limits of his Triangle Ford Explorer when it quit on him on Rte. 501. The temp was weighing in at a hefty 101, unfortunately for many ... his buddy picked him up before he passed away drinking Crown with the windows rolled up. Edward Armentrout, the head pro and GM of The Vista Links Golf course in Buena Vista dropped by to talk a little more about the PGA Championship. John Daly was a big topic of conversation ... and Edward also talked about the importance of guys like Chip Sullivan playing in the PGA and how PGA pros from all over are rooting for Sullivan. R&R also talked with Edward about The Vista Links, and what a neat golf course it is ... as well as the coupon they are offering on sportslineradio.com.
More PGA talk ... as Rich and Larry head live to Oklahoma and hook up with Hank Gola of the NY Daily News. Hank said that the heat wasn't affecting him too much ... as the media tent is air conditioned. Gola also had a few laughs concerning John Daly's preparation for the tournament playing the slots at a local casino rather than playing golf. Gola also expected major changes on a very unimpressive leaderboard. |
