Morgan Dean, Vick's Statement after Pleading Guilty and Jim Grobe
Monday, 27 August 2007

Monday on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... Michael Vick plead guilty to the dogfighting charges in federal court today and surprised everyone by making a statement.  Morgan Dean, Reporter for WRIC-TV in Richmond joined Rich and Larry right off the bat telling them how surprised he was to hear that Vick was going to finally speak.  He was impressed that Vick seemed to be speaking from the heart rather than from notes or a prepared statement, although he didn't buy everything that Vick said, especially about how he has taken responsibility all along.

Double R and the Legend play the 5 minute statement that Vick made earlier ... IN IT'S ENTIRETY ... despite how much Rich wanted to pause the statement and make comments about it as it went along.  After it played, Rich and Larry gave their feelings on it.  Rich gave Vick an A saying he felt Vick accomplished everything he could have hoped ... with the statement and apology playing as very sincere and heartfelt.  Rich also said that he didn't buy it, because over the course of 7 years and all of the time and money Vick invested in dogfighting, RR didn't feel that it was just a mistake and that Vick didn't just suddenly realize it was wrong.  Larry felt that the apology was sincere as well ... although he felt Vick was sorry that he got caught ... not necessarily that he felt dogfighting was wrong.  Larry also felt that the part of the statement about accepting responsibility all along was BS and neither Rich or Larry bought the part about Vick finding God to get him through this ... "for now".

Jim Grobe, Wake Forest Head Coach was up next on the ACC Preview.  Grobe began talking about the loss of a close friend and important part of the Wake community ... Skip Prosser.  Grobe is not thrilled with opening the season at BC then against Nebraska ... his AD did him no favors.  Much tougher schedule this year than last, and even though the Deacons might be as good or better than last year ... winning 11 games is tough.

Solomon Wilcots was scheduled to drop by the show today ... but that didn't work out.  So Rich and Larry talked a little baseball ... Yanks - Sox of course with a little NY Mex mixed in as well.  Plus, we met new Sportsline intern Michael ... who, like Larry and Jerod, had never met a male gymnast in his life up until meeting Rich.
