Vick Will Cop a Plea, Daryl Ledbetter, David Teel and Lots of Calls
Monday, 20 August 2007

Monday on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... this show is all about Michael Vick as the word came down late this afternoon that Vick would indeed be pleading guilty to the Federal Dogfighting charges.  Double R pointed out that according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Vick actually participated in hanging, and killing dogs that didn't test well ... as few as 3 days prior to meeting with the NFL commissioner up in NY prior to the NFL Draft.

Daryl Ledbetter of the AJC dropped by once again and confirmed the details that R&R had laid out in the opening segment of the show.  Daryl said that everything is still falling into place ... but he is looking forward to seeing what Vick admits to when the statement of fact is released next Monday.  Ledbetter did say that since Vick was not gambling on sports or the NFL ... that he would probably not be banned for life from the league, but it looks as though he will miss at least the 07 and 08 seasons.

Rich and Larry next opened up the phones to let the callers have their say on the situation, particularly how it relates to VT.   Frank Beamer release a statement which still mentioned that he is waiting to see how everything plays out ... and Larry called for VT to at least acknowledge that Vick did a despicable thing.  Neither Rich or Larry feel that Tech needs to rename Michael Vick Hall or take his retired number down from Lane Stadium ... but there does need to be some acknowlegement of what went on here.

Callers checked in and their opinions ranged from feeling that VT should totally disassociate itself from Vick ... to nothing at all ... and of course everything in between.  Some even wondered what other schools did to disassociate themselves from their former disgraced athletes like Ray Lewis, Jamal Lewis, Rae Carruth and of course OJ.

David Teel, the great columnist from the Newport News Daily Press dropped by for more Vick coverage.  Teel didn't necessarily think that VT needed to do anything ... at least until something comes out that proves that Vick was involved in this type of behavior while at VT.  Teel also said that the reaction in the Virginia Beach area is somewhat mixed, with some folks who will stand by Vick no matter what.

R&R wrapped up the show with a couple of emails ... including one from "Michael Vick".
