7th Place in PR for UVA, Curtis Staples guest hosts, Barry Jacobs & Travis Watson drop by, & Danny !
Thursday, 21 December 2006

Day 2 of Double R flying solo ... sort of ... as former UVA Sharpshooter Curtis Staples dropped by the studio in hour 2 to talk some college hoops.  UVA did wind up beating the Division II host of the San Juan shootout ... barely ... to snatch 7th place in the shootout.

In hour 1, Rich gave newcomer Danny Boy a baptism under fire as he asked Danny to track down a guest at MSG where the Hokies were playing in a hoops tourney.  Ol' Danny Boy was quite flustered and didn't know where to begin.  Rich had quite a bit of fun at Danny's expense ... part of being the new kid on the block. Rich also gave a quick review of Rocky Balboa.  He said it was a pretty good movie ... suprisingly so, but he really enjoyed it and encouraged others to check it out as well.

Curtis Staples talked plenty of UVA hoops in the second hour, including offering up very positive comments on Dave Leitao as well as the new JPJ arena, where Staples had his jersey retired on opening night.  At first Curtis said, he wanted to have the ceremony at UHall where he nailed all of those big 3's, but conceded that he couldn't have asked for anything better than to be honored on opening night at JPJ.

ACC guru and historian Barry Jacobs dropped by to preview the upcoming ACC season with Rich and Curtis ... and finally, Curtis hooked The Sportsline listeners up with former UVA standout Travis Watson, who is currently playing ball in Europe in its top league, and has just been honored as an All Star.  Watson waxed poetic about his time spent in Charlottesville, and despite rumors of turmoil and conflicts with then coach Pete Gillen ... Travis said he would not have changed a thing.
