Today's show started on a very sad note, as R&R announced that a
good friend and sponsor of the show, Judah Berry, passed away.
You may recall that during the 2006 Song Parody Contest a special
silent auction was held to benefit Judah and his family to help with
all of the enormous expenses they incurred during his battle with
Leukemia. Unfortunately it is a battle Judah lost on Sunday, and
The Sportsline certainly passes along its condolences to Martha,
Allison and Amy, along with all the rest of Judah's family and
friends. He will certainly be missed.
Larry Weisman,
football columnist for the USA Today joined R&R today on the
show. Rich and Larry always have a blast talking with Larry
Weisman, as not only does he have a great feel and knowledge of the
NFL, but he has a great sense of humor as well. Today's theme was
"fat guys in the middle", and no the reality show "The Biggest Loser"
did not come up. We were talking about the importance of big run
stoppers in the middle of the defensive line, and how important they
are to football teams. You see, the Colts don't have them and are
therefore pitiful against the run. It could wind up costing them
a run to the Superbowl, like some (Rich) predicted prior to the season.
Also
today, it became official. The final five contestants have now
been narrowed down to the final 2. Chip Hughes and Gil Pratt left
the other 3 finalists in the dust, and now the 2 of them will go head
to head this coming weekend for the get-a-way to Wild Dunes.
Dave
Leitao, head hoops coach at UVA made his first appearance on the show
this season. Bit of a lull in the schedule right now, as the
players have some time off for exams, but Leitao was quick to point out
that he is plenty busy this week recruiting and scouting. Leitao
talked about the importance of the Arizona game to open the season and
the new John Paul Jones arena. All the hard work and money that
went into not only planning the opener, but that went into the new
arena could not be lost on a poor performance by his players. He
also said that he thought a trip to the NCAA tournament was certainly a
possibility and goal this year for this team.
