Technical Difficulties Abound, but Gregg Doyel and Hank Gola deliver the goods
Wednesday, 13 December 2006

What a show today on The Sportsline. Larry had the day off, and ironically enough, technical disasters marred the entire show. Double R, Luscious L and Bluetooth spent as much time on the phone with engineers and technical operations centers as they did on the air talking to guests and listeners.

Rich replayed the interview that aired the previous evening with Dave Leitao, head basketball coach up at UVA. Gregg Doyel, the controversial columnist from cbssportsline.com dropped by the show a little later. Michael Vick and Allen Iverson dominated most of the conversation with Doyel.  He feels that while Vick is a servicable NFL Quarterback, he would make a Hall of Fame Running Back.  Only problem according to Doyel is that noone will be able to move Vick to RB, he would have to move himself, and that clearly is something that will never happen.  Doyel also talked some AI, and said that the Answer is not really the SuperStar player that most people perceive him to be.  He doesn't feel that there is a team in the league that will be better off having Iverson play for them, as his career record with the 76ers is just barely above .500 which proves that he is not a guy that necessarily makes his teammates or his team better.

Finally today, amidst all of the technical difficulties and phone feeds, Hank Gola of the NY Daily News talked about the NY Giants with Double R.  And what a soap opera they are. Gola said that Michael Strahan is a prima donna, and the perception that he is a "stand up guy" is just that ... a perception.  Gola credits Tiki Barber with a great work ethic and says that despite his announcement that he will retire after this season, Barber has continued to leave it all out on the field.  Barber's teammates however, may be a little jealous of Tiki, and all he has going for him on and off the field.  Gola feels that the Giants have the ability to make a run in the playoffs, but they need to use the last few games of the regular season to right the ship and get their act back together, both on and off the field.
