| The BCS Mess - Florida or Michigan & Rich Hofmann live from Philly |

Lots of College Football and BCS talk on today's show. Rich is really looking forward to the big bowl preview show ... you know, the one in which he rips all of the bowl games and says how 95 percent of them are a big waste of time. There was also a big discussion on who should be playing Ohio State for the National Championship. R&R both agreed that if it had been a little earlier in the season, that there is no way that Florida would have vaulted over an idle Michigan in the human polls, which obviously was a deciding factor in the Gators getting the nod by a very slim margin over the Wolverines. Both Rich and Larry agreed that Michigan is the best team, and if you feel that the two best teams should play for the championship, that it would be a big ten rematch. If however, you feel that Michigan already had their shot (albeit on OSU's home turf), and that you need to be a conference champion to play for the title, then Florida is your team. Rich was clearly torn on this, because he does not like rematches, infact ... he called Florida's first and only championship tainted, because they beat FSU in the title game, after losing to them earlier in the year. But Rich also felt that Michigan is clearly the better team, and that in the interest of getting the best possible game, that maybe there should be a rematch. Larry also felt that Michigan is the best team, although when he went game by game through the schedules, he determined that based only on the teams they played, that Florida is more deserving of a shot at OSU. He said that the quality of play demonstrated by the teams throughout the season did not matter at all to him, only wins and losses. Rich felt that the quality of play needs to be factored in, especially in a subjective system in determining who plays in one game. Based on this, he felt that Florida really struggled in many of its games, and despite only 1 loss, was not national championship caliber material.
Also on today's
show, Rich Hofmann a columnist for the Philadelphia Daily News dropped
by to preview MNF. Rich made an interesting comment about Jeff
Garcia. He said that while the Eagles offense will look a lot
different with Garcia in place of the oft-injured McNabb, he thought
Garcia would be able to execute and put points on the board. The
undersized defense was what Hofmann thought would be Philly's biggest
problem down the stretch, not the loss of McNabb. He picked
Philly to beat Carolina on MNF, and said that there may be many big
decisions that the Eagles need to make in the off season, regarding the
direction the team is heading in. |
