Burnup and Hobgood together, Wendi Venturini, Ron Jeremy on VH1 and predictions for Tech-UVa
Friday, 09 February 2007

Today on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... 142 days and counting but tonite is all about UVa and Tech on Saturday.  Larry mentions to slip in a plug for FIGJAM (Phil Mickleson) who is off to a good start in a non major ... big surprise there huh?

Next up ... a little double dip on the show ... as both color analysts from the VT and UVa radio networks joined R&R on the show.  Mike Burnup (VT) and Jim Hobgood (UVa) previewed Saturdays game as well as talked about the season to date.  Both agreed that UVa had the better backcourt (better scoring potential) but both also felt that Tech might have the second best backcourt in the conference and with the experience would provide a lot of trouble for teams down the stretch.  Both guys also praised the coaches for turning the programs around ... and feel that both teams are definitely heading in the right direction.  Neither analyst would pick a winner for Saturday ... both felt like the team that played better would win.  That didn't sit real well with Double R ... but he and Larry let them off the hook anyway.

Rich and Larry then looked again at the remaining schedules for both teams.  UVa has a cake schedule the rest of the way ... Larry maintains that they are formidable contenders for the ACC crown.  RR pointed out that the Cavs don't have to play anyone currently in the top half of the conference the rest of the way ... with the exception of the Hokies twice.  VT has a tougher road, and really must win 4 games to guarantee themselves a spot in the field of 65.  3 wins might get it done, Rich thinks it will ... but Larry is not so sure.

Fantasy Friday this week featured Wendy Venturini of The Speed Channel. Wendy joined R&R live from Daytona's Speed Weeks and talked about a variety of topics including Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s feud with his step mom Theresa, and his postion of power within DEI.  Junior said he wants to be the majority shareholder in DEI or else he will leave for another owner at the end of the season.  Venturini also talked a little about being a woman in a male dominated sport and told a story of how she was accused of dating Tony Stewart just for talking to him.  Rich of course chimed in with one of his sexist comments.  Wendi also a UNC girl ... was excited by the win over Dook ... but also being from Chicago was somewhat crushed by the Bears bitter defeat in the SuperBowl.

Rich walked back into the studio following a break to find Larry watching a program featuring former porn legend Ron Jeremy.  Turns out it was a cheap VH1 reality show.  A replay of Sean Singletary's interview from Thursday followed.

Finally, it was prediction time ... both Rich and Larry took the Hokies over the Hoos in Saturday's big game.  The Hokies, being at home and needing the win more were big factors for both guys.  Larry implemented his "desparate team theory" while Rich pointed to the Cavs string of good luck during the winning streak ... and that might be getting ready to run out.
