Paul Hewitt, Billy Packer, Jamil Tucker & Hank Goal from the Match Play ... plus Larry has no Ipod
Thursday, 22 February 2007

Today on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... 129 days and counting ... but not much time for the Tom Gay-dy stuff right off the bat, as R&R are joined by Paul Hewitt, head coach of the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets.  Hewitt and his squad are coming off a nice win and getting ready for UVa this Saturday up in Charlottesville.  Hewitt talks about how his team is extremely young and really starting to come together.  Hewitt also commented on the pressure on winning now in college hoops, although he did say that the folks down in Atlanta have been pretty good to him and his team during the rebuilding phase after the run to the national championship game just a few weeks ago.

Up next, Sportsline Historian Wesley Q. May checked in with "This Day in Sportsline History".  This day last year, Wesley pointed out ... Greg Tomlin, the GM of the Manor House Cafe at Poplar Grove Nascar Fantasy team was asked about his favorite dish at the Manor House ... which incidentally is run by his wife ... and he replied "the hot dogs are real good".  Nice job Greg.

Billy Packer of CBS Sports and Raycom dropped by to talk some college hoops with R&R.  Packer talked about the great depth of the ACC though he did not expect the conference to get 8 or 9 teams in like some people are speculating ... which he said will make this stretch run in the regular season and the ACC tournament so much fun.  The highlight of the interview though, may have been when Larry had Packer speachless ... momentarily ... with what Packer called a great question.  It was Larry's question of the year ... 'Who has a better backcourt, UVa or Tech?'.  Packer went on to sing the praises of both backcourts ... though never really answered the question.

R&R then got into a brief discussion over Billy Packer vs. Dick Vitale.  Both like Packer much better as he is willing to criticize when it is needed ... plus like Double R pointed out ... Dickie V has become like a cartoon character, or a charicature of himself.  JW checked in to point out that R&R were sucking up to Packer ... though not quite as badly as the Legend did during the course of the interview.

Rich and Larry next wanted to talk a little World Match Play Championship ... but Mr. Ass printed out the World Cup Soccer bracket.  Nice job Ass Man.  Jamil Tucker, freshman forward for the Cavaliers was up next after the disappointing loss to Miami.  Tucker had a great game against Miami, it didn't mean much to him considering it was a loss.  Tucker had no comment on speculation that Coach Leitao had a profanity laced tirade following the loss.  R&R took his silence as confirmation.

Hank Gola of the NY Daily News joined Rich and Larry live from Arizona and the World Match Play Golf Championships.  Thursday was a brutal day as most of the top names were bounced from the tournament ... however one name was still on the board.  Tiger Woods.  Gonna be a tough weekend for TV ratings if Tiger gets bounced ... and Gola went out on a limb and predicted that Henrick Stenson would knock off Tiger in the Quarterfinals ... we shall see.

Finally ... Larry got a lesson in Ipod's ... as he claims to still use cassette tapes.  The poll question went up after that.
