Ricky Rudd, Jim Larranaga, Stacy Compton prior to Daytona & DC drops in for Fantasy Draft
Friday, 16 February 2007

Today on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... 134 days and counting, but today is almost all about the Daytona 500 and The Sportsline Nascar Fantasy League Draft ... which it was announced will be sponsored by ABC 13 WSET ... and Dennis Carter, sports director at WSET, will manage and draft the WSET team.

Ricky Rudd, a Virginia guy who has returned from his retirement to drive the 88 car for Robert Yates, joined R&R on The Sportsline.  Rudd talked about recharging his batteries after a year off and relishing the opportunity to return to Yates Racing and make up for some mistakes he made in the past.  Ricky also talked about the recent struggles for Robert Yates racing and how he plans to bounce back with a top 10 finish this year.

With Bracket Buster Weekend upon us, R&R caught up with George Mason coach Jim Larranaga.  Jim talked about Mason's great Final Four run last year and how that rejuvenated hope for mid majors everywhere.  Larranaga also talked about his decision to suspend Tony Skinn, and how he never considered not suspending him to improve Mason's chance of getting an at large bid.  He hopes the message to do the right think gets across to coaches everywhere.

Stacy Compton dropped by the show prior to The Nascar Fantasy League presented by ABC 13 and prior to the Daytona 500 and also prior to his truck race at Daytona.  Stacy is of course also the lead NASCAR analyst for ESPN and talked about the upcoming season ...

Dennis Carter arrived in time for The Sportsline Nascar Fantasy League presented by ABC 13 season 1 draft.  After exchanging pleasantries, determining the draft order and announcing the contestants and sponsors ... it was time to draft.  Bluetooth took Jimmie Johnson number one over all, DC opted for Tony Stewart 2nd ... Double R took Jeff Gordon just to put all of the pressure on Larry picking 4th.  With all of 'his guys' off the board, the legend stuck with the gameplan and suprised everyone picking Jeff Burton 4th.  Rich predicted that this would be the pick that would determine the success of Larry's team ... and that it would be a bust.

Once the teams were finalized, the starters were announced ... just in time for the end of the show.
