Today on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... 158 days left in the bet for Double R. R&R opened up the show talking a little bit about the Hokies win over Miami in college hoops on Tuesday and made fun of the NHL All-Star Game taking place on a Wednesday night being televised on Versus. Like thats a real channel or something. John called in with a brutal attempt at a NY accent, which Rich was onto right off the bat. When asked where he was from, John replied Queens. Lower Queens to be more specific. John was exposed as a fraud at that point. He ripped R&R for their lack of knowlege of Hockey, which they were not ashamed of ... but all in all it was an entertaining call. Wes also checked in with a trip down memory lane during "This day in Sportsline History" recalling how last year the show was not on the air due to a major screw up by Verizon ... though some believed in the disgruntled Steeler fan conspiracy theory. Ian Eagle of CBS Sports stopped by to talk some hoops and football. Eagle is doing much more college hoops for CBS now leading up to the NCAA's, as well as being the Voice of the NJ Nets. Eagle talked about the possibility of more mid-majors becoming household names in college hoops over the years, like Gonzaga has done. He also talked about the poor quality of the Eastern Conference in the NBA, specifically the Atlantic Division where the Nets are in first place with a sub 500 record. Eagle talked some football as well ... picking Peyton Manning and the Colts to knock off the Bears. R&R made a couple of brief comments about Bruce Pearl and his team showing up shirtless as fans to a women's game before Bob Sturm former host of The Sportsline came on live from the NHL All-Star game in Dallas. The guys talked some Hockey with Sturm before diving into the Parcells situation with the Cowboys. Sturm pointed out that it was unlikely that it was a contract dispute that led to Parcells leaving, since Bill still shows up to work every day to help find his replacement. Sturm also pointed out that the folks who think the Cowboys will be better off with a new coach are crazy ... that Parcells is one of the best in the business. When Larry mentioned his 500 record, Sturm countered by saying he was 500 with New England as well, but certainly turned the Patsies around. Jerry "Hootie" Ratcliffe, sports editor of The Charlottesville Daily Progress also joined R&R live from Raliegh where he experienced some credential trouble trying to get into the UVa-NC State game. While winning the game down at the RBC Center would not answer all of the questions about the Cavs play on the road, it certainly would be a step in the right direction Hootie said.
