Tuesday on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... with the news already out that Vick will miss training camp and speculation that he will miss a good chunk of the season if not the entire season, Rich and Larry opened up the phones and talked to some listeners about the message that is being sent by Vick's absence from camp.
Sportsline Historian Wesley Q. May checked in with This Day in Sportsline History ... dating back 4 years to when Rich called one of the hosts of the morning show on their previous station in Lynchburg an "ungrateful bitch". Unfortunate? Maybe ... but definitely well deserved. R&R then jumped right back into the Michael Vick adventure ... and talked about playing in the NFL being a privilege rather than a right and that the NFL and the Falcons have every right to sit him down if they so choose. Rich just felt that there might be too much outside pressure to let the legal system take its course ... but it appears that the pressure is on the league to sit him down. Emails were also read on the subject.
ESPN's Kirk Herstreit joined R&R in hour number two ... as he is headed to Richmond on Wednesday to speak at the Richmond Hokie Club event. Kirk has been working some early mornings filling in for Mike and Mike ... and also talked about his new schedule, which will have him so busy that he will no longer be handling Thursday Night Football color commentary. Kirk also expects the Hokies to win the ACC and be a national contender should they knock off LSU early in the year. He also thinks UVA could be an 8 win team this year.
Following some quick PromoMania results ... Daryl Ledbetter of the AJC dropped by with another Michael Vick update. The question of how to pronounce Vick's nickname "Ookie" in the indictment was raised ... as was the question of how the Falcons will respond with Joey Harrington at QB.
