Thursday on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... a new countdown ... only 7 shows and counting before The Sportsline moves to its new home on the dial in Lynchburg and new studio as well. Today is day one of the Senior PGA Championship down at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Resort and Double R is live on the scene ... taking one for the team and all. The Coverage of the Senior PGA ... presented by Poplar Grove Golf Club ... kicked off in style with former PGA and British Open Champion Nick Price, who had a pretty good day today at 1 under par. The wind was howling and only a handful of players even managed to break par, led by Eduardo Romero. Up next ... another Michael Vick dogfighting update with Chris Colston of the USA Today. Chris talked about dogfighting being part of the culture that a lot of players grew up in, and as a result it is tough to get out of their system. Double R tells the story of how he was out "covering" the tournament and got plunked by John Jacobs drive on the 18th hole. John wondered why he didn't kick it out into the fairway ... and Double R shot back pointing out that he kept it out of the sand. Mitch Light of Athlon Sports talked about the upcoming College Football Preview and how the Hokies are ranked 9th in the nation. Mitch said they could have been ranked even higher were it not for the questions everyone has about QB Sean Glennon. The Top 6 teams have not yet been announced, however Light did confirm that UVA would not be among them. Light also said it should be a big year for RR's Trojans, that Georgia Tech could be the surprise team in the ACC this year and that Butch Davis will win more conference games at UNC in the next 5 years than Nick Saban will at Alabama. Finally ... Brian Gerrad, the Director of Golf at Kiawah dropped by the show. Brian talked about setting up the Golf Course and what having a Major Championship here at The Ocean Course means to Kiawah. Gerrad also talked about the conditions and the wind here at Kiawah ... why its such a factor at the Ocean Course as opposed to all of the other golf courses on the island, and how to play it. |
