Today on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... 58 days and counting
... and R&R kicked off the show with This Day in Sportsline History
... as Sportsline Historian flashed back several years to remind Rich
and Larry of how they had a couple of special guests ... Rich's Dad and
Larry's buddy ... on to handicap the Kentucky Derby. That led
Rich to recall how he got his dad to gamble online ... to avoid the
seedy scene of the OTB's up in New York.
Bluetooth
was on the scene in Richmond for practice and qualifying (and the free
Crown Royal no doubt) and hooked R&R up with a couple of bigtime
interviews prior to the race including Ryan Newman. Newman talked
about adjusting to the COT and also discussed his engineering degree
from Purdue. Ryan said that the education he got at Purdue, while
continuing to race during his college years, helps him to better
understand and communicate with his race team ... giving him an edge
over the competition.
Up next ... a little Derby talk with Dan
Illman of the Daily Racing Form. Illman talked about it being a
wide open field this year ... and said that pedigree and lineage is
mattering less and less as horses now are being bred specifically for
speed. Dan thought that Curlin would win the Derby, believing he
might just be one of those 'special' horses. Illman also figures
that Todd Pletcher will eventually win one of the triple crown
races as he has become the top trainer in the game. Dan agreed
with Larry's comparison of Pletcher to FIGJAM.
Nicole Begg, a
world champion inline skater was the Fantasy Friday guest on The
Sportsline this week. Begg has recently done a photo 'spread'
wearing nothing but her skates and helment, which don't cover
much. The idea behind the photos was to bring additional
attention to Nicole and her sport ... Mission Accomplished!
Before
getting into the Nascar Fantasy League ... R&R debut a new promo
featuring the Anti-Father of the Year ... Alec Baldwin. Larry did
a fantasic job with editing here.
Stacy Compton of ESPN dropped
by to talk a little racing. He talked about owning race teams,
and the success that his guys are currently having. Got into
racing under the lights at Richmond as well as the dominance of
Hendrick Motorsports with the COT. R&R wrapped up the show
with standings and starters for the second to last race of season 1 in
Nascar Fantasy.
