Today on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... 47 days and counting
... but the show starts out with the news that Jerry Falwell passed
away earlier in the day. Falwell was obviously a controversial around
the world, but had a great impact on the city of Lynchburg, where The
Sportsline is based. Falwell had a great passion for sports,
particualarly at Liberty University so LU Athletic Director Jeff Barber
dropped by the show. Barber talked about the importance of athletics
to Falwell and at Liberty University ... and how the program will
continue to build in honor of Falwell.
R&R
once again congratulated David and Big Lick Tropical Grill for winning
the Title in Season 1 of the NASCAR Fantasy League ... and then moved
onto the NBA's MVP Dirk Nowitzki. The very thought of it made Rich
laugh, while Larry pointed out that the award is a regular season
award. RR would be ok with the award, other than the letters MVP ...
because the Most Valuable Player in the League does not allow his team
to be dumped in the first round of the playoffs by 8th seeded Golden
State.
Up next Rich and Larry began talking about Augustus
Gilchrist, the VT hoops recruit who is reportedly backing out of his
commitment to the Tech and using the mass shootings as his excuse.
Nathan Warters of the Lynchburg News & Advance talked about some of
the reports, including the one that Bob Huggins is now recruiting
Gilchrist for WVU ... and that VT might not let Gilchrist out of his
commitment after all.
Solomon Wilcots of CBS Sports and the NFL
Network dropped by the show next ... and kicked his interview off with
a not so glowing review of Spiderman 3. He said that he is waiting for
all the facts to come out in the Michael Vick case before making a
judgement ... and said that he totally trusts Jay Glazer's report that
Brett Favre wants out of Green Bay ... but there is no way the Packers
can deal him.
