Another big show on Thursday as the final 2 contestants in the
Opening Round of the 9th Annual Sportsline Song Parody Contest took to
the microphone and performed for a spot in the Main Event coming up
Tuesday at Cattle Annies in Lynchburg. Greg Tomlin and Mickey
Johnson, both first timers in 2005 came in with strong entries.
Now its up to the listeners and the judges to determine who will be
Main Eventers and who will be opening up the show prior to airtime at
6pm.
Joining R&R on the show on Thursday was Jeff Capel, the
new head hoops coach at Oklahoma. Once Kelvin Sampson bolted for
Indiana, that paved the way for Capel to head to Norman after a
successful run at VCU. Jeff told R&R that he was excited
about moving to a big time program, although a program that has had the
success and tradition of Oklahoma is that there are more expectations
right off the bat ... which of course means more pressure. Capel
said that he only has 10 scholarship players this year, since several
recruits bailed after the coaching change, but that would allow him to
bring him more of his own players quicker.
Double R and
the Legend also talked more Hokies with Kyle Tucker of the Virginian
Pilot. Tucker helped break the story about a lawyer from Hampton
Roads who is suing Jimmy Williams, former Hokie now playing for
Atlanta, for money he claims he gave Williams back when he was at
Tech. Tucker was not quite sure what this would amount to, but
its interesting stuff nonetheless. Tucker also picked Tech to
beat Wake, as he says the Hokies are really coming together.
