Friday on The Sportsline it was just Double R flying solo with the Comrade on board as well on a special "Day After Thanksgiving Show" just to preview Saturday's Game. Before diving into some of the great interviews, RR and the Comrade talked about how "contrived" the Commonwealth Cup is. Lots of rivalrys have cool things at stake like Paul Bunyon's Ax, the Iron Bowl, The Egg Bowl ... the Commonwealth Cup is lame. Up first on today's show is VT linebacker Xavier Adibi. Adibi can't wait for the game and the opportunity to expand on Tech's dominance over the Cavs during his tenure in Blacksburg. Adibi says that he doesn't want to go out on a losing not to UVA, especially since he never has before. Xavier is jacked up for the game, with everything on the line ... saying that games like these are what college football is all about. After a quick break and score check as LSU is on the ropes against Arkansas, UVA head Coach Al Groh stopped by the show. Groh was typically vague when answering many of the questions Rich asked of him, even after Double R applauded the job that he and his coaching staff and players have done thus far. Groh is not looking past the Hokies to a possible ACC Championship game, and claims that this is the best team to come into Scott Stadium in a few years. During the break, LSU lost to Arkansas and more than likely eliminated themselves from the National Championship picture. This year though ... who knows what will happen next. Frank Beamer dropped by next and talked about the excitement here in the Commonwealth as it was always the hope that this game would be a meaningful one each year. After some coaxing, Beamer admitted that he liked dominating UVA and that he hopes it will continue again this year. Rich and the Comrade recapped the 2007 SPC briefly before being joined by their last guest, UVA senior TE Jonathan Stupar. Stupar is a red-shirt senior ... so he is one of the few folks in Charlottesville who has beaten VT and he admitted how desperate everyone up their is for a win. Although all conventional wisdom points to VT winning this game ... Rich is going with UVA ... again. He logic is simple. If not now ... when? UVA has everything in its favor tomorrow, home game, winning close ones, senior day, Chris Long. If they can't win this one ... when will they beat the Hokies? So he took the Cavs ... 21-20. Another 1 point win. |
