Post VT-UVA, Daryl Slater, Doug Doughty & Jim Ducibella
Monday, 26 November 2007
Monday on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... lots of talk about the Commonwealth Cup and some Sean Taylor talk mixed in as well.  But R&R open up the show praising the Hokies and wondering how many more games Al Groh can lose to VT before it begins affecting his job security. Chan Gailey got the boot and his record is eerily similar to that of Al Groh.  Daryl Slater of the Richmond Times Dispatch also checked in and he gets the feeling that this rivalry is starting to get more heated, as he felt the atmosphere in C'ville was great and expects another good game next year.

R&R feel that "The Commonwealth Cup" is lame and needs to be revisited.  There are lots of cool names for rivalries out there, like The Iron Bowl, The Egg Bowl, The Civil War and The Battle for Paul Bunyun's Axe.  Time for a new nickname.  Lots of Hokie fans called in hoping Al Groh will stay at UVa for years to come ... the Cavalier Faithful seemed somewhat quiet, at least early in the show.

A couple of more callers checked in before R&R hooked up with Doug Doughty of The Roanoke Times. Doug got started on a rant about how useless Miami is to the ACC and how they never should have been brought in.  Clearly it was a decision that revolved solely around football.  Doug also felt that Chan Gailey and Al Groh is a fair comparison and that Gailey was dismissed prematurely.  Doug reiterated a comment made by Groh during the post game that lots of teams have a poor record against Tech over the last several years ... and this really sent Larry through the roof.  The Legend is coming around to RR's thinking that Groh needs to be more competitive and begin beating VT if he is to stick around C'Ville.

Jim Ducibella of the Virginian Pilot dropped by to talk some Skins and Sean Taylory.  Taylor is out of surgery but still remains in critical condition after being shot early in the AM during a home invasion.  Lots of speculation that he was trying to leave his past gang life behind him, and there are no indications yet as to how any of that may have factored into the shooting.  Duce also thinks the Skins season is done.

R&R wrap up the show with a few more emails about the UVA-VT game.
