Randy Cross, Jeff White & Lots of Hokie Talk
Wednesday, 28 November 2007
Wednesday on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... much more right off the bat on the Sean Taylor situation including Rich's surpise that this story has dominated the National Headlines as much as it has so far.  Double R and the Legend also talk about the implications of the upcoming Cowboys Packers game and how it isn't as big a game as the Colts-Pats several weeks ago for a variety of reasons, including that it is not a battle of unbeatens ... and the winner of this game is not a clear cut front runner to win the Super Bowl.  Ryan O'Halloran of the Washington Times also checked in with a brief update on the Sean Taylor situation.  O'Halloran pointed out that with no real leads more than 48 hours after the incident, finding and catching the killer is highly unlikely.

Randy Cross of CBS Sports dropped by the show and he too touched on Sean Taylor.  Randy has no clue how the Redskins organization will respond to this tragedy or how the team will play the next few weeks ... because nothing like this has ever happened to a football team in the middle of the season.  Cross does feel that Joe Gibbs is the perfect guy to try to lead them through this however ... because of his deep religious beliefs and the fact that the teams knows these feelings are genuine and heartfelt.  Cross loves the matchup between the Cowboys and Packers and feels they are two very evenly matched teams.  He also says to keep an eye out on the 6-5 or 7-4 teams, who have made Superbowl runs in recent years.  Wes checked in with a History moment ... flashing back 1 year to the debut of the Tom Brady song parody.

Rich and Larry spend the first part of hour 2 talking Hokies and BC.  Double R and the Legend have flip flopped their postions from the first meeting only several weeks ago.  After picking BC to win the first game, Rich is now on board bigtime with the Hokies.  Larry on the other hand, has jumped off the Hokie bandwagon and has hitched his ride to BC.  Rich feels that a win against BC would be a huge step for the VT program, in that in each year where they have high preseason expectations, they typically come up short and have their big seasons when not much is expected of them.

Jeff White of the Richmond Times Dispatch got into a great conversation with R&R about Al Groh and his inability to beat the Hokies.  White stressed that if the team was not 9-3 this year, his lack of success against VT would be more of a factor and that it probably will be in future years.  However, a 9 win season has pretty much earned Groh a pass on the VT rivalry for now ... and its really not even worth talking about at this point.  White also predicts a Gator or Champs Bowl for UVA depending on whether or not VT can knock off BC.
