Everyone's in Blacksburg but R&R and a Guarantee Gone Good?!?!?!
Thursday, 26 October 2006

A big Thursday night game in Blacksburg as the 10th ranked Clemson Tigers came to town . . . so where were Rich and Larry?  In the studio of course.  They have got to figure out a way to get permission to do their show live from the press box during these Thursday Night Games.  Bluetooth Brooks was helping out again, as he was in Blacksburg hooking the guys up with guests to break down the game, and the season to date.

Aaron McFarling, columnist for the Roanoke Times made his first ever appearance on the show.  Aaron was right on the money as he talked about Brandon Ore relishing this opportunity to shine, as all the pregame chatter was about the two running backs from Clemson, with Ore being somewhat overlooked.  McFarling wondered about the Hokies chance to score enough too keep up with the Tigers and picked Clemson, after admitting that he has not really been on the money with his picks so far this year.

David Teel, columnist for the Newport News Daily Press was next to join Double R and the Legend from the press box prior to kickoff. David, in his Thursday column, wrote that just playing well, win or lose against Clemson would be a good thing for the Hokies ... siding with Rich in his belief that the Hokies just aren't that good of football team this season.  He too picked the Tigers.  He too turned out to be wrong.

Mike Harris, the newly named Sports Editor of the Richmond Times Dispatch was next up, though only had a few minutes...due to his busy schedule. Like all the rest, Harris picked Clemson while having some fun with Rich and Larry.

David Scott of the Charlotte Observer dropped by to offer up more of a Clemson perspective.  Scott talked about the dynamic duo in the Clemson backfield of James Davis and CJ Spiller.  He told the story of how the freshman Spiller had his choice of virtually any school he wanted, but chose Clemson because he was so impressed with James Davis and the dedication and committment to the program he showed during Spillers recruiting trip.  Scott recognized that more often than not Clemson under Tommy Bowden has typically gotten off to slow starts and finished strong but this year, quite the opposite is true.  Like all of the rest, David picked Clemson to win a tight game.

Adam Kilgore of the Washington Times made time to drop by the show as well. Adam was not too concerned about Ike Whitaker becoming a threat to Glennon and making the QB situation a mess this season, like it was a few years ago with Marcus and Bryan Randall.  Adam picked Clemson big, by 2 touchdowns or so.

In the final segment of the show, the Hokies took the field, "Enter Sandman" was blasting, the crowd was going beserk and Larry couldn't hide his colors any longer.  In a dramatic change from what he was saying for the previous couple of days, not only did he pick the Hokies to win, but he guaranteed it.  Now we all know what the Legend's guarantees typically mean...disater.  This time though quite a different story.  Rich stuck with his pick that the Hokies would improve and play well, just come up a little short. 31-27 Clemson. Maybe next time.
