Feinstein and Herbstreit and Smith ... Oh My!
Wednesday, 18 October 2006

Wednesday's show was packed with 3 great guests, and in addition Rich and Larry had a little fun with Luscious Lil as her wedding is approaching.

John Feinstein, award winning author and columnist dropped by the show again to talk about his book "Next Man Up" which has just been re-released as a paperback.  Before diving into the book and the NFL, John shared some baseball stories, including when he covered game 6 of the '86 World Series and Buckner made the critical error which cost the Red Sox bigtime.  He asked his favorite trivia question about that play..."How many runs were the Sox up when Bucker whiffed on the ball?"  Big Sox Fan Larry the Legend booted the question just like Buckner booted the ball...he answered 1 run.  John correctly pointed out, with Rich's help, that the score was actually tied.  Poor Larry.  Feinstein also talked about the year he spent on the inside of the Ravens organization researching the book.

Up next was Kirk Herbstreit, ESPN's main college football analyst.  Last Thursday night Kirk ripped into the Hokies for their undisciplined behavior while getting drilled by BC...epitomized by Brendan Hill being caught by the ESPN camera's dancing on the field while the BC band and fans sang and celebrated.  Kirk told Double R and the Legend that he wasn't indiciting Frank Beamer or the program.  In fact, he genuinely likes Beamer and felt bad that the actions of the players reflected badly on Beamer which is unfair to the coach.

Regan Smith was the third guest on Wednesday's show.  Regan is currently driving the McDonald's Ford Fusion on the Busch Series, but has just been promoted and will be splitting a Nextel Cup schedule next year with future Hall of Famer Mark Martin for MB2 Motorsports in the 01 US Army Car.  Regan told Rich and Larry that he is extremely excited at the opportunity and feels that he will be under significantly less pressure in his first Cup season since he will only be running a part time schedule.  And the opportunity to learn at the side of Mark Martin has Smith feeling great about his future with MB2 Motorsports.
