Meltdowns, Brawls and Dancing. The Sportsline's got the audio!
Tuesday, 17 October 2006

A first in Sportsline History occurred on today's show.  A guest was "rained out".  That's right . . . "rained out".  It turns out that the rain changed the practice schedule for UVA and Kevin Olgetree was unavailable to join us at the scheduled time on the show.

Rich and Larry did however, get the opportunity to play several audio clips from the past few days involving meltdowns, scoldings and asinine rants.  Denny Green lost it during a post game press conference following his Cardinals loss to the Bears on MNF despite holding a halftime lead of 20-0.  20-0 . . . can you imagine a team blowing a lead after leading 20-0 at the break.  Oh . . . sorry UVA fans.

Kirk Herbstreit's scolding on Brendan Hill also got replayed on the show.  You remember Brendan Hill.  He was one of the guys involved with the "contributing to the delinquincy of a minor" along with everyone's buddy Marcus Vick.  Brendan apparently had no problem at all dancing a jig in the waning moments of the Hokies brutal loss up at BC, on the field in front of the cameras for all to see.

Rich and Larry also had some fun at the Cane's expense.  Don Bailey, former U of M star and now the color analyst for the Hurricanes joined us on Monday and explained how THE U wasn't to blame for the recent melee.   Part of that interview was replayed, as well as the clip from the now unemployed Lamar Thomas, who cheered and sang live on the air for Comcast while the brawl was taking place.  Larry loved how Lamar claimed that FIU crossed the ocean to get to Miami.  Rich was amazed that he wanted to ride the elevator down to join the festivities.  Unreal.

Finally, UVA alumnus, Pete Williams, author of a number of books including his latest "The Draft" dropped by the show.  He bashed Al Groh and the UVA football program and then talked some baseball . . . the sport he covered for the USA Today and Sports Weekly for so many years.  He picked St. Louis to beat the Mets and the Tigers to ride the wave all the way to the title.
