The Background and History of The Song Parody Contest
Monday, 23 October 2006

On today's show, Rich and Larry talked plenty of football in the first hour, then focused hour number 2 on the Song Parody Contest.

Virginia Tech got a much needed win over Southern Miss to setup Thursday Night's showdown with Clemson on National TV.  Larry conceded that this is a big game for Tech and that he may have been over exaggerating earlier in the season when he proclaimed the game with BC as the season defining game for the Hokies.  Official picks to come later in the week.

Rich and Larry also gave an extensive history and look into the background of the Song Parody Contest.  They talked about its humble, very humble beginnings with knockoffs of the theme song for "Friends" and of course everyone's favorite "The Wheels on the Bus" and how two men, KB & Ernest took the contest to the next level with the final performance of year 1 in 1998.

KB & Ernest, along with Norm and the Recliners and Jeff "The Boss" Maxwell have taken over as the household names when it comes to the SPC . . . although newcomers like Kent & Donnie and Triple Play have also made a big splash in recent years.

Hank Gola, of The NY Daily News dropped by the show in the closing segment to preview the MNF matchup between Dallas and the NY Giants.  Hank picked the Giants in a close one . . . while both Rich and Larry went with the Cowboys.  Nice call guys.
