Thursday on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... 34 days and counting 'til The 2007 Song Parody Contest ... and as the Rockies stand by waiting to see who they will play in the World Series, Manny Ramirez busts out with the comment that if the Red Sox lose this series "its not the end of the world ... there's always next year." And while Sox fans like Larry (and Jerod???) defend the comments saying "it's just Manny being Manny" ... Rich and most others feel that while its not a big deal for him to think it ... it is not something that Manny should have blurted out in his broken English. Wes also checked in with a History Moment about 2006 when Kirk Herbstreit dropped by the show defending his ripping of Brandon Hill and the Hokies after their brutal performance up at BC. Bryan Stinespring, Offensive Coordinator for the Hokies was the next guy to drop by the show. He talked with R&R at length about the relief performance that Sean Glennon gave against Dook on Saturday ... and agreed that had Glennon played that well at the beginning of the year, we might never have seen Tyrod in action. Stinespring wouldn't let Double R talk him into any type of QB controversy ... and also addressed the problems of the offensive line and running game. Greg Augmon of the St. Pete Times dropped by again to preview USF and Rutgers. USF is now ranked 2 in the BCS standings ... and he thinks they can pull out a close one tonite against the Scarlet Nights. Larry, in trying to justify one of his theories ... tried to make the argument that UConn is a good football team, despite no real evidence of this other than a 6-1 record with no quality wins whatsoever. Rich and Larry dive into the Joe Torre situation at the beginning of hour 2. The Yankees offered Torre a 5 million dollar 1 year deal with 3 million in incentives for post season success. Torre turned it down claiming it was an insult, which Larry agreed with. Rich feels that despite the 2 million dollar paycut ... it was a fair deal, as Torre's recent lack of post season success warrented an incentive based contract ... not to mention he would still be paid about 2 million more than any other manager in baseball. Not too shabby if you ask Double R. Insult him like that anytime. Heather Dinich who covers Maryland for the Baltimore Sun checked in to preview Sats game up in College Park. Dinich agreed with R&R that this a huge game, maybe a season defining game for both teams ... as the loser will still need to prove something to everyone at some point this year. Dinich rattle off the numerous injuries that are plaguing the Terps ... but still picked Maryland to win a close game. R&R wrapped up the show talking about Tom Brady's kids name ... and how the first 3 initials spell JET. Kid not given Brady's last name ... figures it took the name of Tom Brady's Husband! |
