Friday on The Sportsline with Rich and Larry ... Manny from Schmokies dropped by with some great BBQ to celebrate the beginning of the NFL season. Former UVA star linebacker, now playing of course for the Steelers, James Farrior dropped by the show. Farrior discussed the new coaching staff in Pittsburgh and said he wasn't quite sure what they are doing with the offense ... but they are pretty much leaving the D alone. Farrior also said that this team is counting on making another run to the Superbowl and revisiting their attitude from a couple of years ago. Farrior is also quite disappointed with what's going on up in Charlottesville, and hopes the Cavs can turn it around. Mike Burnup, color analyst for the Hokie radio broadcast dropped by live from Louisiana to preview the huge game between VT and LSU. Burnup talked about the opener against ECU and said that he is anxious to see how the Hokies bounce back and shake off the rust after a slow start. Burnup is defintely concerned about the LSU Defense, especially against the Tech offense, but cautioned not to sell the Hokies short, as they usually find a way to step up and meet a big challenge. Rich and Larry talked more about the big game. Rich argued that VT has definitely got a chance to pull this game out ... as under Beamer, they often find a way to show up and surprise people when they least expect it. He did however pick LSU to win. Larry wouldn't even give VT a chance in this game ... predicting that they would get drilled badly and continued calling for Tyrod Taylor to get the nod at QB. Randy Rosetta of the Baton Rouge Advocate dropped by the show to offer up a little perspective on LSU. He talked about exactly how electric the atmosphere is during night games at LSU, and about how not only the starting front 4 on the DL for the Tiger is unbelievable ... but the second string is almost as good. Stacy Compton of ESPN dropped by to talk some Nascar, as the race in Richmond this weekend signaled the final race before the chase. Not much to race for tonite though, as Stacy feels that the field for the Chase is pretty much set, with Jr. on the outside looking in. Stacy also predicted that Toyota, with Joe Gibbs Racing will be a major factor next year, and that Kyle Busch is jumping into a great situation. |
