The 2006 Song Parody Contest is FREE and open to folks of ALL ages...and is once again presented by Triangle Ford
Mercury. The 2006 SPCis back at Cattle Annie's in Lynchburg for the second
consecutive year on Tuesday November
21 from 6-8 pm and will feature a SILENT AUCTION to benefit a good
friend and sponsor of The Sportsline, Judah Berry and his family.
This year's SPC will once again feature 2 divisions, The Amatuer and The Elite. This year, the winners of the Elite division will once again win tickets to the UVA-Tech game and limousine transportation to and from the game. This year, The Sportsline is thrilled to be working with Curtis Staples and QR Limousine and Transportation. The winners of the Amateur Division will also win tickets to the game. For 2006, The Sportsline has placed some restrictions on who is eligible to participate in the Elite Division. The competition at the SPC's highest level has gotten somewhat intense and R&R have decided that competitors now need to earn their way into the "Elite". Any prior winners of either the Elite or Amateur Divisions will now participate in the Elite, as well as any others who have asked for and received a special exemption as a result of impressive past performances. As mentioned earlier, at the 2006 SPC presented by Triangle Ford Mercury, there will also be a silent auction to benefit Judah Berry and his family. Judah is a good friend and sponsor of The Sportsline, and is the Managing Partner of Schmokies Restaurant in Lynchburg. Judah was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia over the summer and has been battling the illness ever since. This fight has obviously been an emotional one for the Berry family, but is also a financial one as well. With repeated trips back and forth to Richmond for treatment and visits from family and friends, there are numerous expenses not covered by insurance and this silent auction will help Judah and his family with some of those expenses. Please click here for a list of items that will be auctioned off. In this years SPC, there is some "New Blood". That means Fresh Meat, Cherry Poppers or First Timers. "New Blood" this year is Glenn Campbell and Ray Irby.We also have a number of popular contestants returning to the Amateur Division. Greg Tomlin is back off his runner up performance in last year's Amateur Division. Wes May returns as well, as does Mickey Johnson, Ed Medley and Jack Campbell. Confirmed to compete in the Elite Division, which will be a much smaller field that in past years, include the Defending Champ, Jeff "The Boss" Maxwell and the 5th Street Band. 2003 and 2004 winners Norm and The Recliners are back as well, as is Jamie Minnix . . . the only person to compete in every single SPC.
